Unclaimed Listings Policy
Last updated: August 2026 · v1.1
This policy explains how Bookify Malta publishes and manages unclaimed listings in the Bookify Directory. An unclaimed listing is an independent, informational directory entry about a business that has not claimed or verified the page. It is not a Bookify customer profile, booking page, endorsement, recommendation, partnership or representation that the business uses Bookify Malta.
1. What an unclaimed listing is
Every unclaimed listing carries a prominent notice reading:
Unclaimed listing
This business has not claimed or verified this page and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or represented by Bookify Malta. Information is provided for directory purposes and may have changed since it was last checked.
An unclaimed listing does not mean the business is licensed, certified, insured, recommended, approved or quality-checked by Bookify Malta, and it never includes booking functions.
2. What we publish
For an unclaimed listing we publish only limited factual information:
| Field | Condition |
|---|---|
| Business or trading name | Independently verified |
| Business category | Bookify’s neutral taxonomy |
| Locality | Prefer locality over a full address |
| Opening hours (where reliable) | Shows a last-checked date; may be “Unknown” |
| Link to Google Maps | External link only, labelled “View on Google Maps” |
| Attributed rating & review count | Third-party rating from the business’s public Google Maps profile, shown only where available and always with the review count and the source named |
| Last-checked date | Always displayed |
An unclaimed listing never includes:
- Phone numbers, email addresses or websites;
- Logos, business photos or images;
- Service menus, prices or descriptions;
- Bookify-hosted reviews, review text or un-attributed ratings;
- Booking availability, a “Book Now” button or any booking function;
- Any statement that the business uses, endorses or is affiliated with Bookify Malta.
Where available we display the business’s public Google Maps rating and review count, always labelled with the source and the number of reviews. Ratings are provided by Google Maps users, are not verified by Bookify Malta, and are not a factor in how results are ranked (see our Directory Ranking Policy). A business may ask us to remove its rating or review count at any time through the removal route in section 6.
3. Where the information comes from
We compile unclaimed listings from lawful public sources, in the following order of preference: information provided directly by the business’s authorised representative; the business’s official website; its official social media pages; official Maltese public registers (where reuse is lawful); and independently documented public information such as signage. We do not build the Directory by copying Google Maps, Facebook or Instagram search results, competitor directories, commercial databases or review platforms. For every published field we keep an internal record of the source, the date checked and the confidence level.
4. Home-based and personal-name businesses
We publish only a locality for home-based businesses and never a residential address unless the business clearly advertises the address as a place customers visit and the listing passes a manual review.
Where a trading name is an individual’s personal name, we treat the listing as personal data: we apply strict minimisation, avoid adding personal contact details, and where required by Article 14 GDPR we send a neutral transparency notice before publication. See section 6 of our Website Privacy Policy.
5. Claiming a listing
If you own or manage a listed business, you may claim it free of charge, without a subscription, card details, marketing consent or a sales call. Claiming confirms that Bookify Malta has taken reasonable steps to establish that you are authorised to represent the business.
Claiming does not mean Bookify has verified or endorsed the business’s services, licences, qualifications or quality. See our Claim & Ownership Verification Policy for the verification methods we use.
6. Correction and removal
You do not need to claim a listing to correct or remove it. Anyone may report incorrect information or request removal free of charge and without creating an account, using the routes described in our Correction & Removal Policy. A completed removal takes effect across the website, sitemaps and internal search, and we keep only a minimal suppression record so the business is not accidentally republished.
7. Data protection
For directory research, publishing, claims and removal records, Bookify Malta acts as an independent data controller. Your rights — access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection — are explained in section 14 of our Website Privacy Policy, and you may complain to the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (idpc.org.mt).
